Robbers loot tea garden official's bungalow
Robbers looted the house of an assistant manager of Premnagar Tea Garden under Moulvibazar Sadar upazila on Tuesday night. The gang decamped with a rifle and 200 bullets, 13 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.
According to Sadar police, the robbers tied up the guard and entered the bungalow of MA Awal, assistant manager (factory) of the tea garden by breaking open the door Tuesday mid-night.
Shahadat Hussain, manager of the tea garden told reporters yesterday that he filed a case with Sadar police in this connection. Awal said he came out of his bungalow at about 10:00 am on Tuesday and left for Dhaka for official purposes. His wife was in their village home during the robbery, he said.
UNB from Faridpur adds: Eight robbers were arrested from a trawler in the Padma River in Gopalpur terminal area of Charbhadrasan upazila Tuesday.
Police and witnesses said a gang of 13 armed robbers intercepted the trawler in the river at about 10:00am and swooped on its passengers.
They beat up the passengers and looted Tk 4 lakh, five tolas of gold ornaments and 40 mobile phone sets from them and the trawler owner Babul Munshi. Five passengers were injured in the attack.
When the gang tried to flee with the booty in speedboats, police and locals chased them and held eight of them along with a speedboat while the rest managed to flee firing blank shots.
