Two brothers killed in Naogaon clash

Two brothers were killed and five other people injured in a clash over a piece of disputed land at Rangamati village of Kashopara union under Manda upazila in Naogaon yesterday. The deceased are Rashedul Islam, 22, and Manik,25, sons of Babu Mondol of Rangamati village. Injured Babu Mondol and his wife Rokeya Begum, Khaleda Begum and Motaleb of the same village were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital. Police arrested Anwar Hossain, Harunur Rashid, Samortho Banu, Parvin and Kohinoor after the clash and seized sharp weapons from the village. A K M Khalequzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Manda police station said, the incident was a sequel to long-standing conflict between Babu Mondol and his sister Samortho Banu. According to witnesses, the clash took place when Babu Mondol went to a plum field around 10:00 am. His sister Samortho and her sons and supporters attacked Babu Mondol with sharp weapons. As Babu Mondol's son and supporters went to the spot, they also came under attack. Rashidul was hacked to death on the spot while Manik succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital. Our Correspondent in Brahmanbaria reports: At least 100 people were injured as two groups of villagers clashed in Sarail upazila of the district on Tuesday. According to witnesses and police, Arabic teacher and Imam of Shakhaiti Purbapara Jame Mosque Monirul Haque caned a student hailing from nearby Naila village under Sarail upazila. Centering this, the guardians of the student headed by Haroon Mia and Deen Islam beat up the Imam at the mosque. At this the people of Shakhaiti village chased the angry guardians out of Shakhaiti. After a while two groups equipped with lethal weapons locked in a fierce clash at around 8:00 am on Tuesday. The people of Shulabari village also joined the clash in favour of Naila village. The clash lasted for three hours leaving 100 people injured. Of the injured, Safi Mia, 35, Dulal, 30, and Ahad, 25, were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital while Imam Hussain, 35, Monir Hosain, 20, Musharraf Hossain, 40, Hakim, 48, Suman, 22, Mannan, 18, Lalu, 12, Siraj, 40, Alkas, 17, Helal, 30, Ali Hossain, 25, Akter Hossain, 30, Ahammad Ali, 47, Suhag, 20, Musa, 24, Al Amin, 22, and Juwel, 18, were treated at a private clinic. The rest others were given first aid at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital and privet clinics.
