Youth gets life for killing step-mother
Six jailed in two other cases
A youth was sentenced to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in Magura on Thursday for killing his step-mother in 2004.
In two separate murder cases, six others were jailed for life in Kishoreganj and Dinajpur on Thursday and Tuesday.
The additional district and Sessions Judge Mohammad Nazir Ahmed in his verdict in Magura also fined the youth Tk 50 thousand, in default, to suffer one year more RI, reports in Magura correspondent.
The convict was identified as Mofizur Rahman, son of Abdus Salam of Kukna village in Magura municipality area.
According to the prosecution Mofizur beat up his step-mother Elachi Begum, 58, severely leaving her critically injured over family feud on September 19, 2004. On the following day the victim succumbed to her injuries at Magura Sadar Hospital.
A court in Kishoreganj on Thursday sentenced four people to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for life in a sensational murder case, reports our correspondent.
They were also fined Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer 6 months more jail.
The convicts are Mukhles, Nayan Mia, Akhter Mia and Selim Mia of the Chandiber Pultankanda area in Bhairab.
According to the prosecution, Abdur Rashid of Ghagrapara village under Isharganj upazila in Mymensingh district used to live with his parents, brother and sister in Chandiber Pultankanda area under Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj. Neighbour rickshaw puller Mukhles owed Tk 2000 to his younger brother Abdur Rashid.
As Mukhles was not repaying the money they locked a clash some day later. Mukhles took Rashid to an isolated place and killed him with sharp weapon on January 24, 2004. The following day body of Rashid was found under railway bridge of Bhairab.
In Dinajpur, a tribunal on Tuesday sentenced two people to life term imprisonment for killing a girl after rape in 2007, reports UNB.
The convicts are Hajrat Ali, 27 and Shamsul Islam, 32, of Kalyani village in Birganj upazila.
According to the prosecution the convicts killed Fatema Begum of the same village after rape on August 27, 2007.
After examining the records and witnesses Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Shamsul Huda handed down the verdict acquitting three other accused.
