Rivals vandalise AL office
A group of local Awami League (AL) activists vandalised Mohiskhocha union AL office at Mohishkhocha Bazar in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat yesterday.
Two groups of AL men -- one led by Mohiskhocha union unit vice president Gaffar Miah and another by unit executive member Mukul Miah -- got locked in a chase and counter-chase over control of the party office.
The party office was allegedly set up on the land of Mohiskhocha School and College, said institution sources.
Mukul group chased Gaffar group at the party office yesterday morning.
Later Gaffar group made a counter attack and damaged the office and its furniture.
Mukul Miah alleged that taking the side of Mohiskhocha School and College Principal Shahidur Rahman, Gaffar Miah attacked AL party office and vandalised it.
Principal Shahidur Rahman, on the other hand, said, "The incident occurred due to a political feud and I have no connection with it. The Mohiskhocha union AL party office was illegally built on the land of the institution five years ago. We took shelter of law for recovery of the land and now we are waiting for court order.”
Gaffar Miah declined to talk with the journalists in this connection when he was contacted over mobile phone at round 3:00pm yesterday.
Additional police were deployed on the spot and now the situation is under control, said Aditmari Police Station OC Mahafuzur Rahman.
