Production in well 7 at Haripur Gas Field of Sylhet Gas fields Limited (SGFL) resumed on Tuesday and about 8 MMCF gas is being produced everyday, official sources said yesterday. With completion of second work-over of the well, flare tests and other jobs were done before putting the well into production. The state-run Bapex began second work-over on December 14, 2009 at a cost of Tk 16 crore and finished the job in six weeks. Contacted, Deputy General Manager of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) Raunakul Islam, also manager of the second work-over project at Haripur Gas field, told this correspondent that they completed the work thee weeks ago. Drilling was done successfully 2000 metres deep and we are hopeful of smooth gas production, he added. We resumed commercial operation Tuesday afternoon, the official said, adding that about 8 MMCF gas is being supplied to the national grid through Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution Company. Petrobangla and SGFL first drilled the well at Haripur in Jaintapur upazila, about 24 kilometres off Sylhet city, in 1986. Alongside gas, 5.61 lakh barrels of oil were produced in the well. Since gas zone dried up, the authorities suspended production and kept the well sealed for years. The first work-over of the well was done in 1995, which enabled the well to produce gas until April 2008.
