4 give depositions in Rangamati

Four witnesses out of 25 yesterday gave depositions against 75 accused mutineers of 9 Rifle Battalion of Marishya to the BDR special court-4. The three-member court, headed by Director General of BDR Maj Gen Md Mainul Islam, Lt Col Md Abdur Rouf and Maj Golam Mostafa Al-Mamun adjourned the proceedings till 8:30am today. The court started at 9:00am at Mechanical Transport Yard at Rangamati sector headquarters and continued till 5:30pm. Prosecutor Lt Col Shamimur Rahman produced the witnesses -- former battalion commander of Marisya Lt Col Hafizur Rahman, Maj Kabir Ahmed, Maj Iqbal Usuf and Lieutenant Mahmudur Rahman -- in the court for giving depositions. All the jawans pleaded not guilty when they were taken to the court from Rangamati jail. They were sent back to the same jail after the proceedings. Deputy Attorney General Md Sohrawardy, on behalf of attorney general, aided the court. Mosarraf Hossain Kazal and Md Mohiuddin Dewan were present as senior public prosecutors on behalf of the state. Advocate SM Abdur Rouf, Kazi Bshir Ahmed and Maj Enamul Karim provided legal assistance to the mutineers in the court.
