BCL man beats up trader for toll in Khagrachhari
A rice trader was beaten up by a upazila Chhatra League leader at Panchhari Bazaar under Panchhari upazila yesterday.
Police said, BCL leader Uttom Dey beat up rice trader Polash as he refused to pay illegal toll. Locals rescued him and sent him to Panchhari upazila health complex in a critical condition.
Local lawmaker Jatindra Lal Tripura asked police to take stern action but till filing of this report at 4:00 pm no action was taken in this regard.
In Mymensingh, police on Tuesday night arrested one person for his alleged involvement in killing Azizul Haque, 50, an Awami League (AL) leader at Achargoan village in Nandail upazila.
Arrestee Mofazzol Hossain, son of Abdul Barek of Achargoan was produced before a Mymensingh court yesterday seeking five-day remand.
The court fixed February 22 for hearing on remand petition and Mofazzol was sent to jail, court sources said.
Azizul Haque, a member of AL Nandail upazila unit was killed early Tuesday when a gang allegedly led by Abdur Rahim and Bachhu swooped on him with sharp weapons in Achargoan Bridge area. Azizul was returning home from Nandail bazaar. Critically injured Azizul succumbed to his injuries on way to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).
Earlier, a case was lodged with Nandail police station Tuesday evening accusing 14 people including Mofazzol Hossain.
