Meanwhile in Chapainawabganj, freedom fighters formed a human chain and held a rally yesterday demanding early trial of war criminals and ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics, reports our correspondent. They said, the present government should start trial of war criminals without delay as it was the ruling party's election pledge and people gave verdict in favour of it in the last parliamentary election. Trial of war criminals is a must for the sake of justice, democracy and communal harmony in the society, they observed. Urging all to raise demand for trial of war criminals and boycott them socially and politically, the speakers said that the war criminals have no right to participate in politics of the country as they played a heinous role against the country during the Liberation War. They said, Jamaat and Shibir cadres are trying to destabilise the country as the government is going to try the war criminals. Shibir cadres hacked to death Faruque Hossain, an activist of Chhatra League at Rajshahi University in the early hours of February 9. Former commander of Chapainawabganj Muktijodhdha Sangsad Omar Ali, Mohammad Alauddin, Enamul Haque Fitu and Rafique Hasan Bablu, general secretary of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee district unit spoke at the rally. Our Correspondent in Thakurgaon reports: A procession was brought out at Tentulia bazaar in Panchagarh yesterday demanding ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics. It followed a discussion at the bazaar where the speakers also demanded early start of trial of war criminals. Tentulia Muktijoddha Sangsad organised the programme. The speakers said that the Pakistani defeated forces are out to take revenge through Jamaat-Shibir politics. In the name of politics, the Jamaat-Shibir men want to protect Pakistan's interests in the country. They are trying to destabilise the situation to foil trial of war criminals, they said. They demanded arrest and punishment of the killers of BCL activist Faruk Hossain at Rajshahi University. Freedom fighter Habibar Rahman presided the discussion while president of upazila Awami League Yasin ali, general secretary Kazi Mahbub and freedom fighter Hasan Ali Miah, addressed it.
