22 lakh to get agri input cards in 10 SW districts

The government has decided to distribute over 22 lakh computerised professional identity cards among the farmers of 10 southwestern districts for boosting agricultural production in the country. Of them, 4,18,082 cards will be distributed in Jessore, 1,19,891 in Narail, 2,55,637 in Jhenidah, 1,43,423 Magura, 2,36,197 in Kushtia, 1,32,492 in Chuadanga, 97,250 in Meherpur, 3,43,818 in Satkhira, 2,2,512 in Bahgerhat and 2,64,525 in Khulna districts. The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the cards will contain farmers name and address, national ID card number, total land of farmer, condition of irrigation, cultivation of crops, fertiliser, seeds, irrigation, pesticides and other details. The government will distribute fertiliser, seeds, pesticides and agricultural subsidy among the farmers on the basis of their identity cards. Distribution of cards is likely to start from February 17, sources further said.
