Left student bodies demand ban on Shibir politics
Leaders and activists of left-leaning student organisations at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday demanded ban on Shibir politics at all educational institutions across the country.
They raised the demand at a rally on the campus marking the 15th death anniversary of Chhatra Moitree leader Debashis Bhattacharya Rupam who was killed by Islami Chhatra Shibir at RU on February 13, 1995, reports a RU correspondent.
Addressing the rally, leaders of the student bodies said Jamaat and Shibir cadres are trying to destabilise the country as the government is going to try the war criminals.
They urged the government and the university authorities to ban politics of Jamaat-e-Islami and pro-Jamaat student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir to stop politics of killing.
They also criticised the role of the law enforcers and university authorities during Tuesday's violence on the campus.
The student leaders also demanded exemplary punishment to the Shibir cadres who killed BCL activist Faruk Hossain at Shah Makhdum Hall
In the early hours of Tuesday. They urged the countrymen to stay united against the anti-liberation forces.

Our Moulvibazar correspondent reported that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Bangladesh Chhatra Union and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front yesterday took out separate processions in Moulvibazar town demanding ban on Shibir politics on the campuses.
Protesting the killing of RU BCL activist Faruk Hossain by Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student bodies demanded exemplary punishment to the killers.
