Criminals beat up ansars at Benapole port, take away imported cotton
A gang of criminals yesterday beat up and injured two on-duty ansars at Benapole land port for preventing them from stealing imported cotton from the port premises.
Tariqul Islam, assistant platoon commander of ansars who was posted at gate number 1 of the port in the afternoon said, as soon as he saw that a gang of criminals had been throwing stolen cotton out of the wall beside the gate, he caught hold of the goods. All of a sudden, criminals numbering about 7-8 jointly led by Islam of Namajgram area in Benapole and his nephew Kamal swooped on Tariqul causing his serious injuries. They tore his uniform and badge of ansar and snatched away the cotton from his possession.
Observing his plight, fellow ansar Zillur Rahman rushed to the aid of Tariqul. But the criminals beat him too. A case was filed with Benapole police station in this connection.
Apprehending more attack on ansars, law enforcers reinforced their strength. In the evening, an incident of chase and counter chase occurred between ansars and criminals in the port area . A tense situation prevailed there till filing of the report yesterday evening.
It is worth mentioning, Benapole port police remained silent spectators during the incident. It is widely alleged that policemen had unholy alliance with the criminals from whom they regularly get a large amount of money. A gang of seven to eight thieves including gang leader attacked Ansar official Tariqul and inflicted serious injury on him. The miscreants tore his uniform and badge.
The thieves also snatched away stolen cotton, which he seized.
When another Ansar member Zillur Rahman came forward to help Tariqul the members of the thieves syndicate also injured him by beating.
A case has been filed with Benapole port thana. The armed Ansar members at the Benapole port have intensified their patrol in the area.
The Ansar members and the members of thieves syndicate were locked in a series of chase and counter chase in the evening. Tension was prevailing in the area.
It has been alleged that though the incident took place near Benapole port thana police did not come forward in aid of Ansar members.
