BCL factions clash at PSTU

Two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League clashed at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) on Tuesday night, leaving at least 25 from both sides injured. The clashing groups also ransacked 20 rooms at Sher-e-Bangla Hall and M Keramat Ali Hall of the university. Six of the injured-- Madhab, Ataur, Mithun, Sohag, Rana and Roni-- were admitted to the university health centre while the rest given first aid. Campus sources said BCL faction led by Shakhil chased their rivals belonging to Jewel group at around 11:30pm. After a few minutes, activists of Jewel group equipped with lethal weapons swooped on Shakil's men, leading to a fierce clash between the two factions. Police dispersed the supporters of both factions and brought the situation under control at around 12:30am. An emergency meeting of Provost Council held at VC's office yesterday morning with VC Prof Shakhawat Hossain in the chair. A six-member body headed by Prof Ali Akbar, dean of computer science and engineering (CSE) department, was formed in the meeting to probe the incident. The probe body has been asked to submit its report within seven days.
