Expat shot dead by robbers in Cox's Bazar

An expatriate was shot dead and five of his family members were injured by armed robbers at Moghdail village under Baro Ghop union of Kutubdia upazila early yesterday.
Victim Selim Uddin, 35, is son of late Abdul Munaf of the village. He came to his Moghdail village home from Dubai only 15 days ago.
Police and witnesses said, a gang of robbers numbering about 12 broke open the door of Selim's house at around 3:30 am and took the inmates hostage at gunpoint.
The robbers broke an almirah and looted Tk 1.70 lakh in cash, 40 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 15 lakh valuables from there. As Selim obstructed, robbers shot at him resulting in his instantaneous death.
Robbers also fired gunshots aiming at other inmates of the house causing their serious injuries. The injured are Selim's mother Safura Begum, 60, his wife Noor Nahar, 25, and three-year-old only son Arafat Uddin, elder sister Rehena Begum, 38, and younger sister Minuara Begum, 22. The injured were admitted to Kutubdia hospital for treatment.
Hearing a hue and cry of the inmates, neighbours rushed to their rescue. Sensing danger, the robbers fled the scene firing blank shots at the villagers.
On information, Kutubdia police reached the spot at around 4:00 am. Police raided Chowdhurypara village under Ali Akbar Dail union of the upazila and arrested six gang members with the help of people. Police also recovered three locally manufactured guns, 10 bullets and seven sharp weapons from the robbers.
Contacted, Kutubdia police station OC Yusuf Siddiqui confirmed the incident saying there are several cases including that of robbery against the arrestees with his police station.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Victim's brother-in-law filed a murder case with Kutubdia police station yesterday afternoon.
