30 injured as rival AL men in N'ganj, Chuadanga clash
At least 30 people were injured as ruling Awami League (AL) factions clashed in Narayanganj and Chuadanga yesterday.
Our Correspondent in Narayanganj reports: Five people were injured in a clash between two rival factions of the ruling party at Araihazar Bazaar in Narayanganj yesterday noon.
The injured included upazila Secchasevak League joint convenor Udayan Biswas. All five were admitted to Araihazar upazila health complex.
Police arrested Iqbal, son of Fatehpur union AL chief and nephew of lawmaker Nazrul Islam Babu and Bilas and Mintu from the area.
A bus was damaged while shops at Araihazar Bazaar remained closed during the clash.
One of the clashing groups was led by Nazrul Islam Babu while the other by Udayan Chandra Biswas, witnesses said.
Our Correspondent in Kushtia adds: At least 25 activists were injured in a fresh clash yesterday between two Awami League (AL) factions at Khapra village in Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga.
The same groups clashed on Sunday night leaving four others injured on the day.
Sources said, the clash was a sequel to rivalry between two local Awami League leaders, Ishaq Ali and Abu Taleb, for establishing supremacy in the area.
According to police, one Afizul belonging to Taleb group yesterday went to local bazaar near Ishaq's house at noon. Men belonging to Ishaq group caught Afizul and beat him up.
Within a few minutes, both groups locked in a fierce clash.
Several houses of both groups were ransacked by rivals.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) teams later raided Chuadanga Sadar hospital and picked up 11 from there.
