Indigenous youth held in Bandarban

Police on Sunday arrested an indigenous youth in connection with the abduction of a businessman and a deputy assistant engineer from Roangchhari upazila. The arrestee was identified as Najang Hla Kheyang. Criminals abducted the two from Baro Para area of the upazila on December 27 morning and demanded Tk 6 lakh ransom. Police said, the arrested youth bargained for the criminals and on receipt of Tk 6 lakh as ransom the abductors released the businessman and the engineer at 10:45 pm, about 14 hours after the incident. In Satkhira, five fishermen, who were abducted by Indian pirates bought freedom on Sunday, reports UNB. One of the victims, A Sattar Sheikh, 45, of Harin Nagar village in Shyamnagar upazila said he along with four fishermen went to catch fish in the Sundarbans on December 31. Indian pirates belonging to Khora Shaukat gang kidnapped them while they were fishing in Kasikata area of the Raimongal River, he said. The victims said the abductors set them free near Badurjhuri canal at Kalagasia on payment of ransom for each Tk 5000 on Sunday morning.
