Nazim Uddin Samad murder: Charges pressed against 9 Ansar-al-Islam men
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has pressed charges against nine members of banned outfit Ansar-al-Islam in a case filed over the killing of Jagannath University student and secular online activist Nazim Uddin Samad.
The accused include sacked Major Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque alias Major Zia, an alleged coordinator of the outfit.
"We submitted the charge sheet in the case before a Dhaka Court on Tuesday," CTTC Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam told The Daily Star today.
Of the accused, four members of the outfit have so far been arrested, while five others including Maj Zia are on the run, according to the charge sheet.
The four arrested accused are -- Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan, Mozammel Hossain Saimun, Arafat Rahman and Sheikh Abdullah.
The fugitives are: Maj Zia, Waliullah, Sabbirul Haque alias Konik, Maulana Zunayed Ahmed, and Akram Hossain.
Nazim, a law student at Jagannath University, was hacked and shot to death by assailants at Hrishikesh Das Lane in the capital on April 6, 2016.
