Judiciary and the government
This refers to the report, “A policy of hypocrisy” (Aug.30). The question should not be that of separation of powers between the judiciary and the government, rather it should be seen from the angle of the public and the litigants. In democracy, people are the supreme authority. But is it true for Bangladesh? The answer is 'no'.
This needs an open debate and involvement of public opinion before framing a policy on this subject. In nations like the USA, Pakistan, Nepal, UK and others, the government does have control in appointing judges and also have a commission to deal with judicial misconduct. The judiciary needs to command the respect. But no constitutional authority should enjoy unlimited powers as it gives scope for abuse.
