Sr judicial magistrate dies from Covid

A senior judicial magistrate of Jhalakathi, Sania Akter, died of Covid-19 yesterday morning.

Sania, 29, breathed her last while receiving treatment at Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital at 10:30am, her husband AHM Imranur Rahman told The Daily Star.

Imranur, also a senior judicial magistrate in Jhalakathi, said his wife got infected with coronavirus on July 12.

She was then admitted to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital, he added.

Sania was born on August 1, 1992 at Hoglakanda village of Narayanganj's Araihazar upazila. She completed Masters in Law from Jagannath University.

After passing 10th Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) exams, she joined the service as judicial magistrate on March 1, 2018.

"Sania will be buried at the family graveyard at my village home in Tupchar of Barishal's Muladi upazila tomorrow [today]," Imranur said.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Supreme Court Appellate Division judge and BJSC Chairman Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar and Bangladesh Judicial Service Association President Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury and Secretary General Bikash Kumar Saha expressed deep shock at the senior judicial magistrate's death.

In separate condolence messages, they prayed for the salvation and eternal peace of Sania's departed soul. They also conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members of the deceased.

On June 24 last year, Ferdous Ahmed, judge of Lalmonirhat District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, died of Covid-19.
