Reopening schools proposed in India as Covid-19 situation improves
India today said a consistent decline in daily active Covid-19 cases and daily positivity rate indicate the spread of the infection has gone down, as the country's education ministry proposed reopening of schools with strict adherence to updated guidelines.
A senior health ministry official told the media in New Delhi that the pandemic situation has improved with a fall in the spread of Covid infection, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The number of active coronavirus cases in the Indian capital New Delhi registered a fall of over 60 percent in the last week as authorities are slated to meet tomorrow to discuss withdrawing further Covid-19 curbs due to the improving situation, said the official.
According to the official, the decline in the Covid-19 case fatality rate has been noted with an increase in the administration of vaccine doses, he said.
During the third wave of the pandemic, sore throat was seen more common in patients and there was significantly lesser use of drugs for treatment," added the official.
About the proposal of reopening schools, India's education ministry said states can decide whether schools are required to take consent of students' parents for attending physical classes while group activities would have to be done following standard operating procedures.
