The National Technical Advisory Committee has expressed deep concerns over the government lifting the nationwide lockdown from July 15 to July 22 despite the surge of deaths and Covid-19 infections in the country.

At an online meeting held among the members of the committee on July 12, the committee recommended extension of the ongoing countrywide lockdown for another 14 days, according to a NTAC press release.

As part of the lockdown, the committee asked the government to close the cattle markets set up for sacrificial animals of Eid-ul-Azha. If necessary, the committee asked the government to make arrangements to set up digital cattle markets across the country.

The committee also placed a set of recommendations for the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha and those visiting cattle markets, according to the press release.

The recommendations are: denying permission for cattle markets at city areas, permission can be given to set up cattle market at open places only after ensuring physical distance and health guidelines; not to allow elderly people (50 years or older) and people with any comorbidities at cattle markets; ensure separate paths for entering and exiting cattle markets; making use of masks mandatory for cattle market-goers; encourage people to celebrate Eid at the places where they are currently residing, and encourage people to take advantage of digital cattle market and so on.
