Healthcare system will collapse if we don’t strictly follow guidelines: Zahid Maleque

The health system will break down if Covid-19 transmission goes beyond control, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today.

"We must curb the transmission. Otherwise, the health system will break down," he said while addressing an event at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Dhaka.

With the temporary easing of lockdown ahead of Eid, the minister urged everyone to strictly adhere to health safety rules.

He said the government already initiated setting up isolation beds at the district and upazila levels.

"Through this, there will be 7,000 more isolation beds," he said.

He also informed that 29 lakh doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will reach the country within the next 10 days.

"We have a plan to inoculate the marginalised people who are not able to register online for the vaccine," the minister said.
