The health directorate is concerned about the violation of health safety guidelines at the cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Dr Nazmul Islam, spokesperson of the directorate, said today.

"As the cattle markets are supervised by the local government ministry, we know they too are monitoring the issue. We think awareness and sense of responsibilities of both the sellers and buyers are important," Dr Nazmul Islam said in a virtual briefing.

He said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has already issued "specific suggestions" to all civil surgeons in this regard.

"There are teams led by the civil surgeons and the deputy commissioners [in all districts]. They all are supervising [the issue of health safety rules]… If everyone plays their own role, the health safety rules can be maintained a little better," he said.

Talking about dengue, he said, "Experts have warned that the situation may worsen unless participation of all in building awareness is ensured."
