Addl SP dies from Covid

An additional superin-tendent of police, who was infected with Covid-19, died at the capital's Central Police Hospital early yesterday.

Ahsan Habib, 32, breathed his last at the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) around 12:30am, Saiful Islam Shanto, a superintendent of police, told The Daily Star.

Ahsan was posted to Armed Police Battalion, a specialised unit of Bangladesh Police. He was admitted to the hospital on June 30 and put on life support at the ICU after his condition worsened, said the SP.

Ahsan was from Cumilla. He joined Bangladesh Police as an assistant superintendent of police through the 33rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. He was promoted to the post of additional SP in May this year.

Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed expressed deep condolences to Ahsan's family members. In a condolence message, the IGP said Ahsan was a promising and talented officer.

With Ahsan, at least 101 police personnel have died of Covid-19 across the country.
