Additional SP dies of Covid-19 infection in Dhaka
An additional superintendent of police, who was infected with Covid-19, died at Central Police Hospital in Dhaka early today.
Ahsan Habib (32), who was posted at Armed Police Battalion, breathed his last around 12:30am while being treated at the intensive care unit of the hospital, Saiful Islam Shanto, a superintendent of police at the hospital told The Daily Star.
The SP said Ahsan was admitted to the hospital on June 30, two days after his Covid-19 test came back positive.
As his condition deteriorated, he was later put on life support, he added.
Hailing from Cumilla, Ahsan joined Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police through the 33rd BCS.
He was promoted to Additional SP in May this year. Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed expressed deep condolences over the death of Ahsan. In a condolence message, the IGP said Ahsan was a promising and talented officer.
Due to his untimely death, Bangladesh Police lost a potential officer, reads a press release sent by Police Headquarters.
With Ahsan, at least 101 police personnel died of Covid-19 infection so far.
