12 die in Covid units of 3 Khulna hospitals in 24 hours

Twelve patients died while undergoing treatment at the Covid units of three Khulna hospitals in 24 hours till 8am today.

The three hospitals are Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), Gazi Medical College Hospital and Khulna General Hospital.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Halder, resident medical officer and spokesperson of the Covid unit at KMCH, said that five patients died at the unit in 24 hours till this morning. Of them, two were Covid-19 positive and the rest had symptoms.

A total of 201 people were undergoing treatment at the hospital's Covid unit till 8am today. Of them, 135 are undergoing treatment in red zone, reports our Khulna correspondent.

Gazi Medical College Hospital owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman said, three patients died at the hospital's Covid unit during 24 hours till 8am. A total of 114 patients were taking treatment at the unit till morning.

On the other hand, four patients died while being treated at the Covid unit of Khulna General Hospital, said the unit's spokesperson Dr Kazi Abu Rashed. Sixty-eight were taking treatment at the unit till this morning, he added.

At Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital, no patients at the Covid unit died during the period, said the unit's spokesperson Dr Prakash Chandra Debnath.

Forty-four patients were receiving treatment during this time at the hospital's Covid unit, he added.

A total of 376 samples were tested at the lab of KMCH in 24 hours till 8am today, said Dr Mehedi Newaz, vice-principal of the medical college. Of them 206 tested positive for coronavirus infection, he added.

The current positivity rate stands at 60.07 percent.
