AL believes its candidates ahead in 200 municipalities
Ruling Awami League assessed that AL-nominated mayor aspirants were ahead in around 200 municipalities out of the 234 going to polls on December 30.
The AL central organising secretaries presented the data on party's overall progress before the central leaders at a meeting held at the AL chief's Dhanmondi office yesterday, sources said.
The organising secretaries said AL rebel candidates were a major cause for concern in some municipalities and that they had been trying to make the rebels inactive in the polls campaign.
The leaders, during the meeting, formed seven teams led by party central leaders for campaigning in seven divisions.
Since electoral rules prevent MPs and ministers from joining the campaign, the teams were comprised of leaders who are neither. Some cultural personalities and educationalists were also included in the teams.
The teams would start campaigning from today.
