The then director general of Directorate of Primary Education Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, now defence secretary, and four other government officials today apologised unconditionally to the apex court for not complying with its 2017 directive.

They appeared before a three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Muhammad Imman Ali and offered unconditional apology for not complying with its 2017 directive over appointing a qualified candidate to the post of primary school teacher.

In the apology, they told the court that the government has recently appointed Beauty Begum, who qualified for the post of primary school teacher in Gaibandha in 2008, in line with its directive.

Accepting the apology, the apex court disposed of the contempt of court petition filed against them by Beauty Begum, ABM Altaf Hossain, lawyer of the petitioner, told The Daily Star.

Other four officials are deputy director of the directorate of primary education Md Ramzan Ali, district primary education officer of Gaibandha Aminul, its Sadar Thana education officer Md Abdus Salam and assistant Thana education officer Masumul Islam, he said.

On December 7, the apex court bench summoned Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal and four other government officials to appear before this court today (December 14).
