"We sought Tk 59.9 crore from the local government ministry to repair the damages, said Rafikul.

He said the repair work of the roads has started.

"We hope that the entire work will be completed within a month," he added.

During a visit, our Chattogram staff correspondent found severe road damage in Halishahar, Agrabad, Bandar, Muradpur, Oxygen, Bayezid Bostami, Kazir Jamal Khan and New Market areas.

The CCC said the affected roads fall under 13 wards of the city. Among them, the roads of 8 wards were affected badly.

Chattogram City Corporation has 41 wards.

Chattogram Divisional Road and Highway officials said they are yet to estimate the extent of damage to Chattogram-Cox's Bazar and Chattogram-Bandarban highways.

However, Suman Singh, executive engineer (south division) of Chattogram Divisional Road and Highway, said most part of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar and Chattogram-Bandarban highways have been damaged by the floods.

Two teams are on the spot to assess the extent of damage, he said.

He said renovation work has started on some roads in the port city and the highways to keep traffic normal but the workers are facing problems due to the non-stop rain.
