Oscar nominations 2026 full list: ‘Sinners’ leads with record 16 nods

By Arts & Entertainment Desk

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday unveiled the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, with “Sinners” emerging as the clear frontrunner after securing a record-breaking 16 nominations—the highest ever for a single film. The previous record of 14 nominations was shared by “All About Eve” (1950), “Titanic” (1997) and “La La Land” (2016).

Directed by Ryan Coogler, “Sinners” is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku), Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo), Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. The film also received nominations across technical categories including cinematography, editing, sound, production design, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, visual effects, casting, original score and original song (“I Lied to You”).

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” followed closely with 13 nominations, contributing to a strong showing for Warner Bros, which earned a total of 30 nominations—matching its record haul set in 2005. Netflix and indie distributor Neon secured 18 nominations each, while Focus Features received 13 and A24 earned 11.

Several other films made strong appearances. Netflix’s “Frankenstein”, A24’s “Marty Supreme” and Neon’s “Sentimental Value” each received nine nominations, while Focus Features’ “Hamnet” earned eight. The Best Picture lineup includes “Sinners”, “One Battle After Another”, “Bugonia”, “F1”, “The Secret Agent”, “Sentimental Value” and “Train Dreams”.

One of the biggest surprises was the complete absence of nominations for “Wicked: For Good”, which had been widely expected to feature prominently following the success of its predecessor. Notable omissions also included Guillermo del Toro in the Best Director category, as well as performances by Paul Mescal (“Hamnet”) and Chase Infiniti (“One Battle After Another”).

The nominations also marked several milestones. At 30, Timothée Chalamet became the youngest male actor to receive three acting nominations. Steven Spielberg earned his 14th Best Picture nomination as a producer, the most by any individual since producers began being credited in 1951.

International cinema continued to gain ground, with a record four non-English-language performances nominated in acting categories. “The Secret Agent” and “Sentimental Value” also joined a select group of films nominated in both Best Picture and International Feature Film categories in the same year.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Conan O’Brien returning as host. The event will be broadcast live on ABC and streamed on Hulu.
