Bangladeshi film “Sand City” has been officially selected for the Glasgow Film Festival 2026, one of the leading film festivals in the United Kingdom. The selection marks a strong start to the new year for the film, which has already drawn significant international attention.

Written, directed and edited by Mahde Hasan, “Sand City” has been travelling the global festival circuit following its acclaimed premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it won the Proxima Grand Prix, the top award in its section. The film has since drawn praise for its restrained storytelling, evocative visual language and sensitive portrayal of marginal lives in Dhaka.

Cinematography is by Mathieu Giombini, while the film is produced by Rubaiyat Hossain and Aadnan Ahmed, with co-production by Mahajabin Khan and Mahde Hasan. The lead roles are played by Mostafa Monwar and Victoria Chakma, alongside a supporting cast that includes Javed Kaiser, Apel Pavel, Ahsan Aziz Sarkar, Satej Chowdhury, Mashrawi Muhammadi and Sajeeb A G.

Sand City explores parallel journeys shaped by survival, dreams and the fragile urban landscape. Its Glasgow selection further reinforces Bangladesh’s growing presence in contemporary world cinema.

Official screening details are available on the Glasgow Film Festival website.
