‘He was truly a complete artiste’: Rozina
Actor Ilias Javed and actress Rozina acted together in many films, and the films they starred in received strong responses from audiences. Speaking to The Daily Star about the recently deceased Javed, Rozina shared her memories.
Rozina said, “My first meeting with Ilias Javed bhai was at the FDC. I first worked with him as the dance director of my film. At that time, he was a hugely popular hero, while I was a new actress. Even then, I received him warmly and learned many things from him. Despite being new, I received all kinds of support from him.”
She added, “Over time, I started working opposite many heroes. In that sequence, I also worked opposite Javed bhai. I did many films with him. There are many memories—everything is coming back to me.”
She said, “Even after becoming such a big hero and a great artiste, I never saw any star-like arrogance in him. He mixed with everyone, young and old, with kindness and respect. I never saw any ego in him, nor did he ever show arrogance. He was a big-hearted person—simple, kind, and very cheerful.”
Rozina said, “I did social films with him as well as commercial, costume-heavy films. He could adapt to all kinds of films. In front of the camera, he would become a different person. Most importantly, he loved cinema. He loved acting. He loved to dance. He was truly a complete artiste.”
Speaking about Ilias Javed’s love for the country, Rozina said, “Despite being from another country, he stayed here and loved Bangladesh. He loved this country’s culture with his heart and soul. His way of life reflected Bengali values. Seeing all this felt good.”
In response to a question, Rozina said, “Javed bhai had been ill for a long time. I used to check on him. I couldn’t always reach him by phone; sometimes his wife would answer. I would ask her about him too. To be honest, one by one, the stars of Dhaka’s film industry are leaving us. It is painful.”
Finally, she said, “With the loss of Javed bhai, our film industry has suffered a great loss. His contributions are immense and unforgettable. I pray for peace for his soul. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannah.”
