HBO has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming series based on JK Rowling’s globally popular “Harry Potter” books, offering a fresh look at the wizarding world with a new cast. The first season adapts “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, revisiting the early days of Harry’s journey at Hogwarts.

The teaser opens with Harry, played by Dominic McLaughlin, living with the Dursleys, where he faces neglect and bullying. It then follows his introduction to the magical world, as Hagrid, portrayed by Nick Frost, brings him to Hogwarts. The preview also features key characters including Albus Dumbledore (John Lithgow), Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout), and Hermione Granger (Arabella Stanton).

Reactions to the teaser have been mixed. While many viewers welcomed the series’ closer alignment with the books and its expanded storytelling potential, others expressed reservations, particularly regarding certain casting choices. Paapa Essiedu’s casting as Severus Snape has sparked debate online, with the actor reportedly facing racist backlash.

The series is currently in production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK and is set to premiere on HBO Max in December 2026. Led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, the project aims to offer a more detailed and faithful adaptation of the original books than the earlier film series.
