Fazlur Rahman Babu returns home after heart surgery

Renowned actor and singer Fazlur Rahman Babu has returned home after receiving treatment for a heart condition for more than two weeks at a hospital in Gulshan, Dhaka.

The news was confirmed to Samakal by Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Actors’ Equity.

He said Babu was admitted to a private hospital in the capital on the 16th of last month after suffering a heart attack. He was later transferred to another hospital in Gulshan, where doctors detected a blockage in his heart. Under the supervision of cardiac surgeon Dr Jahangir Kabir, Babu underwent a successful bypass surgery on the 19th.

Although he has now returned home, he remains under medical observation, Apu added, noting that the actor is currently in better condition. “We request everyone to pray for his recovery,” he said.

Fazlur Rahman Babu is a distinguished name in Bangladesh’s cultural sphere. Over a long career, he has captivated audiences through numerous films, television dramas and songs.

A six-time National Film Award-winning actor, Babu began his television career in 1991 with the drama “Mrityukshudha”, based on a novel by Kazi Nazrul Islam. He made his big-screen debut with the film “Bihongo” in 2000.

Since then, he has appeared in acclaimed films such as “Monpura”, “Oggatonama”, “Swapnajal”, “Haldaa” and “Fagun Haway”. The actor is also active on OTT platforms.

Before falling ill, Babu had been busy shooting for Eid dramas and telefilms, several of which are expected to be released during the festival.

His film “OCD”, directed by Saurav Ghoshal, was recently released in Kolkata. His first film released in Kolkata was “Sitara”, based on the novel “Bhorer Prasuti” by writer Abul Bashar.

He has also acted in another Kolkata production titled “Kalantar”. Several of his films in Bangladesh are currently awaiting release.
