Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.

The mystery teased at the end of "Wednesday's second season has finally been unmasked. After months of speculation, Netflix has confirmed that Eva Green — the French star known for "Casino Royale" and "Dark Shadows" — will play Aunt Ophelia, Morticia Addams' elusive sister whose face remained hidden throughout the season 2 cliffhanger.

Green's casting positions her as a central figure in the upcoming season, one that left audiences with a chilling image: Grandmama Hester discovering Aunt Ophelia locked away in a shadowy room, scribbling "Wednesday must die" on the wall. Season 3 now promises a family reunion charged with tension, secrets, and the gothic humour that defines the series.

Netflix made the announcement on November 25, sharing a still of Green alongside the caption, "Aunt Ophelia has arrived. Woefully welcoming Eva Green to 'WEDNESDAY' Season 3." Fans erupted instantly — the combination of Jenna Ortega's sardonic Wednesday and Green's haunting screen presence feels like a match made for the Addams universe.

Series creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar echoed that excitement in a statement to Tudum. "Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We're excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday's world."

Green, known for her magnetic, theatrical performances, sounded equally delighted. Calling the series "deliciously dark," she told Tudum, "I'm thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of 'Wednesday' as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can't wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family."

The series, based on the beloved characters created by Charles Addams, follows Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as she navigates life at Nevermore Academy. Season 2 broadened the Addams lore, exploring Wednesday's friendships, rivalries, and the tangled family histories that now pave the way for Ophelia's entrance.

Though the finale focused on Wednesday's road trip to track down her missing best friend Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), the final reveal belonged to Ophelia. With her flower crown, greying hair, and concealed face, she appeared both fragile and menacing — an enigma deliberately held back for the season 3 arc.

The upcoming season brings back series regulars Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Billie Piper (Isadora Capri), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Sheriff Ritchie Santiago), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), and Evie Templeton (Agnes DeMille). Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen also return in their fan-favourite roles.

Netflix has not yet revealed the release date or plot specifics for season 3, but the introduction of Aunt Ophelia signals that the new season may be the show's darkest — and most character-driven — chapter yet.
