With the 13th National Parliamentary Election approaching, the Actors Equity Bangladesh has clarified that it will not be responsible for the political activities of its members.

In a statement on Saturday, jointly signed by Actors' Equity President Azad Abul Kalam and General Secretary Rashed Mamunur Rahman, the organisation said, “Actors Equity Bangladesh is a fully non-political, professional welfare-oriented organisation. Any member who personally engages in political activity, expresses political opinions, or shares political or violent content on social media does so entirely at their own responsibility.”

The statement added: “Such statements, posts, or activities have no connection to the policies, stance, or operations of the Actors Equity Bangladesh. The organisation will bear no responsibility for them. It is inappropriate and unwanted for anyone to use the organisation’s name, logo, or identity for political statements, campaigns, or provocative content. Cooperation in this regard is expected from all members.”

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Azad Abul Kalam said a member recently linked the Equity’s name to a political campaign. “Everyone has the right to participate in politics. However, members must ensure they do not use the Equity’s name, identity, or logo in any political activities,” he stressed.

The clarification comes as Bangladesh heads into a tense election period, amid growing scrutiny of public figures’ political affiliations and social media activity. The Equity’s statement underscores its stance as a neutral professional body, separating individual members’ actions from the organisation’s institutional position.
