Sunerah–Rehan’s ‘O Jaan’ shot at iconic ‘Bollywood’ location

Nestled in Nepal’s Mustang district, Jomsom sits at an altitude of around 2,760 metres above sea level—a dreamlike town shaped by snow-covered mountains, vast blue skies and a profound, almost meditative stillness. Located on the banks of the famed Kali Gandaki River, Jomsom is known as one of Nepal’s most snow-prone cities and has long been a favourite shooting destination for Bollywood filmmakers.

This picture-perfect location has now become the backdrop for a new Bangladeshi musical film, “O Jaan”, starring two popular faces of the local entertainment scene—Sunerah Binte Kamal and Farrukh Ahmed Rehan. The shoot, completed in temperatures ranging from minus 8 to minus 10 degrees celsius, marked a rare and challenging experience for a Bangladeshi production team.

“O Jaan” is the second project by the creative team behind last year’s hit song “Moyna”, which gained widespread popularity following its release in July. Voiced by Konal and Niloy, written by renowned lyricist Asif Iqbal and directed by Taneem Rahman Angshu, “Moyna” stood out for its cinematic treatment and strong audience response on the Gaanchill Music YouTube channel.

Building on that success, “O Jaan” promises a grander canvas and richer visual language. Konal and Niloy reprise their roles as vocalists, with lyrics once again penned by Asif Iqbal. The composition introduces a fresh musical collaboration between Dhaka-based Avral Sahir and Kolkata’s Lincoln, with music arrangement by Avral Sahir. The musical film also marks the first on-screen pairing of Sunerah and Rehan, under Angshu’s direction.

Speaking after returning from Nepal, Sunerah described Jomsom as “otherworldly”. “Every frame looks like a painting,” she said. “Shooting in minus eight degrees was extremely tough, but working in a place like this becomes a lifetime memory. I truly believe viewers will fall in love not just with the song, but with the location itself—it will feel like watching a big-budget Bollywood number.”

Lyricist and Gaanchill Music founder Asif Iqbal described “O Jaan” as a “pure romantic” tale reflecting contemporary love, with freshness embedded in every creative layer.

Rehan echoed the sentiment, calling the experience “cinematic in the truest sense”. “The visual storytelling complements the lyrics in a way rarely seen in music videos. Despite the harsh cold, the beauty of the location made everything worthwhile,” he said.

Originally planned as a New Year release, “O Jaan” will premiere on January 30 on the Gaanchill Music YouTube channel. According to the director, the project is a joint venture involving Bangladesh, India and Nepal—bringing together international cinematographers, choreographers and location experts to merge snow, mountains and romance into a singular visual experience.
