Jolotorongo hosts nostalgic evening of Bangladeshi film music
Celebrated music organisation Jolotorongo is set to host a special musical soirée titled “Gaan Geye Porichoy”, dedicated to songs from Bangladeshi cinema. The programme will be held today (January 30) at 6:00pm at the Isfendiar Zahid Hasan Auditorium of the World Literature Centre.
Bangladeshi film songs are inseparably linked with legendary lyricists, composers, singers and instrumentalists. Jolotorongo is organising the event as a tribute to those who shaped the country’s rich cinematic music tradition.
In a press release, the organisation noted that Bangladeshi cinema has entered its seventh decade this year. Over the past 70 years, film music has undergone many transformations, with the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s often regarded as its golden era—an invaluable cultural legacy. Jolotorongo expressed hope that contemporary film songs will achieve a similar resonance, aided by the positive possibilities of modern technology.
Under the musical direction of Jolotorongo general secretary Zakir Hossain Tapan, the organisation’s artistes will perform 21 film songs in sequence, accompanied by contextual information.
The repertoire includes timeless classics such as “Pichdhala Ei Pothtare”, “Duti Pakhi Ekti Chhoto Neere”, “Dake Pakhi Kholo Akhi”, “Abar Elo Je Shondhya”, “Amar Buker Modhkhane”, “Akasher Hate Ache Ek Rash Neel”, “Pakhir Bashar Moto Duti Chokh Tomar”, and “Manush Dhoro Manush Bhojo”, presented through solo, duet and choral performances.
