Gaanchill celebrates 20 years with new vision

Leading music production house Gaanchill marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration that brought together artistes, composers, lyricists, and music industry professionals, reflecting on the evolution of Bengali music from the cassette era to today’s digital age.

The event was not only a tribute to the past but also a declaration of future plans. Gaanchill unveiled a new logo and vision, along with its new slogan: “Legacy never retires; it reinvents itself.”

Founded in late 2005 by Naquib Khan, Kumar Bishwajit, Asif Iqbal and Reza Rahman, the organisation has grown into a prominent music platform. Currently led by Asif Iqbal, Gaanchill honoured its three co-founders with commemorative crests. Kumar Bishwajit joined the event virtually from Canada.

The evening featured musical performances by Konal, Salma, Mahadi, Dola, Niloy, and Tariq Mridha, who performed popular songs released under the Gaanchill banner. The programme also revisited the platform’s journey, including its early success, the challenges posed by piracy, and its revival after 2015.

Asif Iqbal announced upcoming projects, including Gaanchill Originals, new music, dramas, and “Pother Golpo”, a visual initiative highlighting unseen Bangladesh.

The celebration concluded with the premiere of the music video “O Jaan”, sung by Konal and Niloy. Written by Asif Iqbal and composed by Avraal Sahir and Lincon, the song’s video, directed by Taneem Rahman Angshu, was shot in Nepal’s Mustang region. The screening received an enthusiastic response, with many viewing it as a symbol of Gaanchill’s new chapter.

Hosted by Mousumi Mou and Abu Hena Rony, the event was attended by several prominent figures from the music industry, reaffirming Gaanchill’s role as a bridge between musical heritage and contemporary expression.
