‘Rakkhosh’ draws strong response in single-screen theatres
Following its run in multiplexes, Eid release “Rakkhosh” is now screening in single-screen theatres, where it continues to receive a positive response from audiences and exhibitors. The commercial romantic thriller, starring Siam Ahmed, has been praised by viewers and film enthusiasts since its release.
According to information from the production house and the exhibitors’ association, the film began screening in single screens across the country from last Friday. It is currently running in several major halls, including Grand Sylhet, Ananda Cinema (Kuliarchar), Monihar Cinema and Monihar Cineplex (Jashore), Momo Inn and Madhuban (Bogura), Raj Tilak (Rajshahi), Sugandha (Chattogram), Madhumita, Ananda and Shyamoli (Dhaka), Sainik Club (Dhaka), CineScope (Narayanganj), and Swapnil (Kushtia), among others.
R M Yunus Rubel, proprietor of Madhuban Cinema Hall in Bogura, said, “All shows of ‘Rakkhosh’ were houseful on Friday. We initially thought the audience turnout might drop, but that has not happened. The response remains strong, and it seems the film will run for a long time.”
During the first week of Eid, the film was released exclusively in multiplexes due to concerns over piracy, delaying its single-screen release.
Iftekhar Uddin Naushad, owner of Madhumita Cinema Hall in Dhaka, said, “Outside Eid, halls remain closed for most of the year. We screened ‘Prince’ during the first two weeks of Eid, but after the initial response, audience numbers declined. We then decided to screen ‘Rakkhosh’. It is a fully commercial film and is performing well in single screens. The audience turnout has been encouraging, and if this trend continues, it could do good business.”
Director Mehedi Hassan Hridoy said the film continues to attract audiences even in its third week. “Good films gradually find their place with audiences. Many viewers could not watch it earlier due to limited shows in multiplexes, so there is still demand. Even in the third week, most shows are nearly houseful. The film is also receiving a strong response in single screens, as it offers all the elements that such audiences enjoy,” he said.
Directed by Hridoy, who previously gained attention with “Borbaad”, the film is part of the “Borbaad Universe”. Shooting took place across Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Mumbai.
The film stars Siam Ahmed alongside Kolkata-based actress Sushmita Chatterjee, with performances by Ali Raj, Shatabdi Figar, Sohel Mondol, Sadia Nisma Binte Noman, and Abrar Athar, among others. Bollywood actress Natalia Janoszek appears in a special song.
