Bangladeshi film ‘The Blind Girl and an Elephant’ selected for Shanghai Film Festival
Bangladeshi film “The Blind Girl and an Elephant” has been selected for the Asian New Talent section of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Directed by Ishtiyak Ahmad Zihad and produced by Manoj Pramanik, the film is a Bangladesh-Germany co-production. German producer Christoph Thoke served as associate producer and, according to the production team, played a key role in shaping the film during its post-production phase.

In a Facebook post, production company MANpaCHITRA expressed gratitude to the cast, crew, and collaborators who supported the project throughout its lengthy production journey. The team noted that the film was completed despite limited experience, resources, and financial backing, relying instead on the dedication and trust of those involved.
“The Blind Girl and an Elephant” marks the feature debut of director Ishtiyak Ahmad Zihad, producer Manoj Pramanik, and production company MANpaCHITRA.
“At the beginning of this journey, none of us had significant experience, nor did we have sufficient financing. However, thanks to the unwavering faith of our collaborators and the support of countless people, the film was ultimately able to come to life,” the team said.
The producers also revealed that the film is expected to travel to several international film festivals before being released for audiences in Bangladesh.
The cast includes Sanjida Akter Sorna, Tahmida Rahman Touhida, Sumaiya Haque, Ashok Bepari, and Sabiha Zaman, among others.
The creative team features cinematographer Samiul Karim Shuptak, editor Hasib Ahmed, sound designer and mixer Sayba Talukder, music composer Sayonton Mangsang, and colourist Chinnmoy Roy.
The project was produced in association with Mogador Film and received strategic consultation from Ratherhood Initiatives.
