A group exhibition titled “Different Strokes” drew visitors to La Galerie at Alliance Française de Dhaka last week, showcasing a mix of diverse styles from eight artists working across figurative, abstract and landscape paintings.

Held from April 17 to 22 at the Dhanmondi venue, the show featured works by Alamgir Kabir, Bayan Shafique, Farzana Rahman, Mahbuba Begum, Oaniya Tahsin Rahman, Razia Sultana Khan, Tahera Banu Keya and Zayn Shafique.

At first glance, the exhibition lived up to its name. Each canvas carried its own story — from fluid abstractions of enchanting rural scenes to intimate human moments and deep explorations of colour and form. But spending time in the space revealed something more cohesive: a shared sense of belonging and connection to nature.

One of the most striking works featured a mother and child rendered in cool blues, painted with warm strokes of red and yellow. The composition evoked a domestic scene, conveyed beautifully through the canvas. Nearby, a lantern glowed softly in the background, echoing themes of motherhood.

The gallery layout placed the artworks along clean, well-lit walls, allowing visitors to view each piece individually. The arrangement created a sense of fluidity and calm, with a mix of large framed canvases and smaller works highlighting differences in style without grouping them by theme.

Alliance Française de Dhaka said the exhibition aimed to bring together artists with distinct visual languages under a single platform.

The exhibition concluded on April 22. The opening ceremony took place on April 17 at 6 pm.
