Obostha Bujhe Bebostha - A lesson in cathartic anarchy
The 8-track album kicks off with “Shikol Chirra, Kutta Bhagey”. In your face, as the artist put it himself, the song is as much political as it is a song about self-reflection. With the accompaniment of a suave yet ominous guitar intro, Farooque's voice takes the reins from the get go.

Nazrul Teertho in Kolkata
After returning from World War II the famous poet Kazi Nazrul Islam resided in Kolkata and neighboring areas till 1972. It was his seat of work, his city of fame. In 2014, the West Bengal Government built an archive in the name of Nazrul Islam. The Urdu phrase that comes to my mind when I see this memorial structure titled `Nazrul Teertho' is: Der se, durast se.

Darkness Persists
An artist, when he teaches, becomes the leader of the youth who are learning not only music; but also a code of conduct which they can adhere to throughout their lives, and draw strength from the words and tunes of the poets. Simply uttering the words, without the deeper meaning influencing the soul is like parrot chatter.

Story of a Bangladeshi opera singer
Before writing about Shabana Tajwar, I had not known about any Bangladeshi opera singer, in fact I didn't know any opera singer at all. Up, close and personal, I have known some Western singers, but they are not opera singers. However, I have heard about opera training, that it is very extensive like Eastern classical music and to be an opera singer of repute you have to train for many years.

An evening of music and comedy with The Mic Peeps
While Dhaka may seem to lack shows where people can go and socialise at, “The Mic Peeps” have been offering a great solution. Starting its journey on February 1, 2018 at Banani's Gourmet Bazar, The Mic Peeps aims to help people showcase their talents in music, comedy, and any other form of performing arts. So far they've collaborated with the venue to host seven shows, with the most recent one taking place on May 10. I got the chance to visit the event and see what it was all about.

Four stars out of five? Not really, no.
Five years after the critically successful AM, the Arctic Monkeys have finally dropped a new album. To say that this new album, “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino”, was different would be an understatement. Sometime during this five-year hiatus, Alex Turner has forsaken his guitar for a piano. But does this new set-up suit the band?

The rising indie-rock band of Bangladesh
Starting out like any other group, Attic was formed way back in 2012, with friends getting together to cover their favourite songs. The band consists of a sibling pair, one cousin, and two friends. Considering they have been playing music and growing up together for the last six years, it is easy to presume that this band is like a close knit family.

Kazi Nazrul Islam - Harbinger of inter-community harmony
In his memoirs Abbasuddin Ahmed has touched upon the efforts of the administration in Cooch Bihar, India in raising a nation with inter-community harmony. He wrote that in his college he had to choose a room-mate either Hindu, if he was a Muslim and vice versa. Inter-community stresses are evident in all parts of the world. Seldom do we find agents who dedicate their own lives to exemplify the glory of fusion.

How to make a progressive Rock/Metal Song
No, we're not talking about sentient rocks or metals that accept feminism and universal healthcare, but of technically advanced rock/metal music that is suited more for listening rather than dancing. With that being said, here's my documentation of how to make a song of this genre with which I hope to give you an insider's look on how it works.

Hope is always the impetus to march forward
I was quite surprised to read a newspaper advertisement in The Daily Star newspaper. It was asking for names of employers who hired domestic help and had kept them for more than ten years, looking after them like a family member, giving them treatment, medicine, holidays and helping them in difficult times and assisting in teaching them or their family members.

And even though they received the lowest scores, their song not only debuted on the top of South Korea's singles charts but also broke all records by remaining at the top for 17 weeks. This opportunity was seized by music companies like SM, JYP and YG appeared; and the rest is history.
