Mad Theatre brings ‘Anne Frank’ back to stage

Mad Theatre’s solo production “Anne Frank” will return to the Dhaka stage after a two-year break, with Arya Meghdoot reprising the title role on September 25 and 26.

The two performances will take place at the Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity at 7:15 pm on both days.

Based on The Diary of Anne Frank, Mad Theatre first staged the play in 2021 as the theatre group’s third production. Asadul Islam adapted the diary for the stage, with Anisul Haque Barun directing the production.

The play follows Anne and her family as they hide in the Secret Annex in Amsterdam during the Second World War. Anne documented their life in hiding in her diary, writing about the war, her fears, aspirations, and hopes for the future.

After their arrest in August 1944, Anne and the other people hiding in the Secret Annex were deported to concentration camps. Anne was eventually taken to Bergen-Belsen, where she died of typhus in February 1945.
