Macklemore announces ‘Free Palestine’ tour after Ed Sheeran tour exit

Macklemore has announced a new European concert series titled “Free Palestine”, weeks after he was removed from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheeran’s “Loop” tour following his pro-Palestinian remarks onstage. The first three dates will take place in Dublin, Paris and London in October.

The rapper announced the concerts on Instagram, saying he had reached out to artists who had “shown up and used their stages to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people”. The artists joining him will be announced later.

The European run will open at Dublin’s 3Arena on October 26. Macklemore will then perform at Paris’ Accor Arena on October 29, followed by a show at OVO Arena Wembley in London on October 30. Organisers said additional cities and dates, including shows in the United States, will be announced later.

According to organisers, proceeds from the concerts will go to organisations providing humanitarian, medical and other support to Palestinians.

Macklemore was removed from the remaining US dates of Sheeran’s “Loop” tour earlier this month after making pro-Palestinian remarks during a September 4 concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The tour promoter, Messina Touring Group, said venue owners had informed them that Macklemore would not be allowed to perform at the remaining shows.

The decision sparked further controversy after several other supporting acts withdrew from Sheeran’s tour in solidarity with Macklemore. Sheeran later addressed the dispute publicly and said he had tried to mediate the situation.
