Chanchal Chowdhury to star in ‘Chaalchitro’ prequel

Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury will act in the prequel of the Bengali film “Chaalchitro”. He confirmed the news to Ajker Patrika. The actor is currently busy with work in both Bangladesh and West Bengal. He has recently finished shooting for two other Tollywood films, “Shekor” and “Azadi”.

“Chaalchitro” was directed by Pratim D Gupta. It was released in cinemas in 2024. The film gave Bangladeshi actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba his Tollywood debut. His performance was praised, even though his role was short.

The director had announced a follow-up called “Chaalchitro 2” soon after the first film’s release. The original story revolved around a 12-year-old case involving a serial killer named Bhuban, played by Bratya Basu. The director once said the new instalment would work as both a prequel and a sequel. However, the plan has since changed. The new script now focuses only on the serial killer’s backstory. It will also not be a film. Instead, it will be released as a series on an OTT platform.

Chanchal Chowdhury will play the younger version of Bhuban. The character is violent, but his past holds a psychological struggle that shaped him into a criminal. The story will explore this background.

Chanchal did not reveal further details about his character or the plot. He said the audience must wait to see the story and character for themselves. He confirmed only that he is definitely part of the project.

Tota Roy Chowdhury will return as the lead investigating officer. Other cast members include Shweta Mishra and Barun Chanda. Shooting is already underway. Chanchal said he will join the set within a day or two. If everything goes to plan, “Chaalchitro 2” will be released on OTT during Durga Puja.
