BotTala stages children’s play ‘Dakat Halum Chitpotang’
BotTala’s children’s wing has premiered its latest production, “Dakat Halum Chitpotang”, at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity in the capital.
The play was staged on Saturday (June 6) as part of the closing ceremony of a theatre training programme for children conducted under BotTala Actors’ Studio.

According to the troupe, the sixth edition of its children’s workshop, “Abhinoye Hatekhori” (Introduction to Acting), concluded on June 6. Following months of training and rehearsals, participants presented the inaugural performance of “Dakat Halum Chitpotang” before an audience of parents, guests and theatre enthusiasts.

The production is adapted from German author Otfried Preussler’s celebrated children’s novel “The Robber Hotzenplotz”. The stage adaptation was written by Shammi Akhter, while direction was by Humayun Azam Rewaz.

Following the performance, certificates and gifts were presented to the young participants by mountaineer Nurunnahar Nimni, the eighth Bangladeshi to summit Mount Everest; Mohammad Shamsuzzaman Arafat, an Ironman athlete; writer and researcher Sameeo Sheesh; poet and educator Shakira Parvin Suma; BotTala founding member Mizanur Rahman; and board member Layeqa Bashir.

BotTala said the production will continue to be staged regularly as part of its efforts to expand opportunities for children’s theatre in Bangladesh.
Over the years, the troupe’s “Abhinoye Hatekhori” programme has introduced several children’s productions to the stage, including “Goopy Bagha”, “Gulliver’s Travels”, “Amra Sobai Raja”, “The Pied Piper of Hamelin” and “Fangsang”.
