Youth in Cox’s Bazar arrested for uploading Facebook video ‘threatening PM’

Police arrested a youth for uploading a video on Facebook, issuing death threats to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar yesterday.

A case was filed under Digital Security Act and also for hurting religious sentiment, our staff correspondent from Cox's Bazar reports.

Md Nur Alam (21), of Pashchim Gorjontoli in the upazila, was arrested from his residence soon after the case was filed with Chakaria Police Station last night.

In the case, plaintiff Sujan Dey, an activist of Chakaria Upazila unit of Chhatra League, said that the accused uploaded the video on his page and Team with AR Cox Media page on Facebook on April 22. In the video, a man threatened the prime minister.

He also used eight links, which hurt religious sentiments of people, from February 7 to April 25 on the Facebook pages.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaker Md Jubayer said the Facebook video is a threat to the state and police are looking into the matter.

"We primarily found involvement of the accused, so we arrested him last night," the OC said.

Accused Nur was produced before the court of Chakaria senior judicial magistrate today and the court later sent him to jail, he added.
