Woman killed, husband injured in attack ‘by UP chairman’ in Cumilla
A woman has been killed and three men were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by a local UP chairman and his men in Cumilla's Meghna upazila last night.
The deceased was identified as Nazma Begum (45). Her husband Abdus Salam and brothers-in-law Sirajul Islam and Faruk were injured in the incident, reports our correspondent quoting Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Meghna Police Station.
Locals alleged that Bhaorkhola Union Parishad Chairman Faruk Abbasi and his men attacked the family around 7:30 last night. They also said that the chairman and his supporters have been extorting money from them and conducting other criminal activities in the area for a long time.
Police are yet to arrest anyone in this connection, the OC said, adding that the body was sent to Cumilla Medical College for autopsy.
Two of the injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital early today as their conditions are critical, he added.
