Posing as CID official: Man arrested in Dhaka for deceiving people
Despite not being a member of law enforcement agencies, he gained knowledge on case documents, general diary and arrest warrants as he had been working for a CID inspector for several years.
After the inspector retired, 40-year-old Khandaker Latiful Haque used to introduce himself as CID inspector, collect general diary or case copy and deceive people -- producing fake warrants against the accused.
He finally ended up in jail after a team of CID arrested him from Khilgaon area in Dhaka yesterday afternoon, CID (Dhaka Metro South) Special Superintendent Mohammad Kamruzzaman said.
The CID official said they came to know about it after a player of national hockey team and his father, who became victims of fraud, complained to CID about him.
Kamruzzaman said there was a general diary against the player's family over land dispute. Learning about it, Latiful collected copy of the GD, produced a fake warrant and approached the family -- impersonating as a CID official.
He told the family that there is an arrest warrant against the player in a case where he was awarded one-year imprisonment and Tk 25 lakh fine. Latiful then took around Tk 2 lakh from the family, threatening to arrest him otherwise. As the fraud demanded more money, the player informed the CID who arrested Latiful, Kamruzzaman added.
During primary interrogation, Latiful admitted that he has so far deceived 15 persons this way.
A case was filed with Lalbagh Police Station in this regard.
