Mystery shrouds over the death of a university student after falling from the rooftop of a building in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area yesterday.

Family members suspect that Tajrian Mostafa Moumita, a student of Asia Pacific University in Malaysia, was pushed off the six-storey building.

Police, however, said they are investigating the death and are yet to reach a position to talk on the incident.

"We have collected CCTV footage of nearby places and interrogated several persons. We got some information. We are investigating it," said Shazzadur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Ramna Division Police.

The body was lying in front of the building yesterday evening and doctors at a private hospital in Green Road area declared her dead after she was rushed there around 6:30pm.

Later, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of forensic medicine department at DMCH, told reporters that she died after the fall.

Victim's father Kamal Mostafa Shamim said they used to live in Malaysia but returned to Dhaka due to Covid-19 fallout and started staying in the building.

Son of a flat owner used to harass the girl and her mother complained to his parents. But instead of taking any steps, they reacted sharply to the complaint and asked them to keep the girl confined at home, deceased's father alleged.

Police will get information if they interrogate the youth, he said.
